Here we have an original 1968 Gibson Les Paul Goldtop! Due to lackluster sales, Gibson phased out the traditional Les Paul body shape in 1961, and introduced the double cutaway SG body style with Les Paul branding to help boost sales. No single cutaway Les Paul models were made from 1961, until their reintroduction in 1968. Gibson used specs from their 1956 model for these reissues, with a solid mahogany body with a maple top, tune-o-matic bridge, and two P-90 pickups. The first twenty or so of these Les Paul’s features a crown inlay on the headstock, rather than the Les Paul silkscreen, just like this very guitar! Because of that, this guitar and the others from that initial batch are quite rare! This guitar is a fantastic player’s piece, with a comfortable medium C neck shape, easy playing action, and frets in good shape! There are some marks across the guitar, as it was clearly well favored! Two beautifully balanced P-90 pickups give this guitar a powerful voice, with a 8.38K in the bridge, and 8.41K in the neck position.
It weighs in at 9 lbs 2 oz, and comes with original hardshell case.
