This oddity is a 1971 Ampeg Dan Armstrong Lucite Guitar. Inspired by Space Age designs, this was a collaboration between Ampeg and NYC musician and luthier Dan Armstrong. It is also commonly referred to as a Plexi Guitar or see-through guitar. One of the main features of this guitar is its removable pickup. With the original release of this guitar, Armstrong manufactured six different pickups, and more would come later. A player could interchange these pickups depending on their desired sound. Three genres (rock, country, and jazz) and two tones (treble and bass) were used to specify the different pickup types. Our guitar comes with two pickups, a rock treble and a country bass. If this is not your taste, you can easily purchase other pickups online and tailor this guitar to your exact liking!
Overall, this guitar is in great condition. It has an appropriate amount of wear around the body for its age, and because it is Lucite these small marks are visible. The back of the neck also shows a moderate amount of playwear. The pickguard, fretboard, and headstock are all in amazing condition. It weighs 9 lbs and 5 oz. and comes in its original hardshell case with the extra pickup stored inside.
If you have any questions, please give us a call at 516-221-0563. We'd be happy to give you an in-hand description of the guitar. All of our guitars are properly set up by John Bertsche, our brilliant guitar tech, and will be professionally packed with care.
Upon receipt, if you are dissatisfied with your purchase, you must notify WSG within 24 hours. We will refund your money as soon as the merchandise is returned to us in the same condition as when it shipped out. The customer is responsible for all shipping, insurance, and bank fees that may be incurred throughout the return process. All returns must be packaged in the same materials that the guitar was sent out in to ensure the instruments safety. All claims regarding loss or damage are the responsibility of the purchaser.
